  • Mrs Riley

Mrs. Riley was completed as part of my second internship. This project was completed during the Spring semester of 2009 with Emergent Behavior, a start-up in Fairport, NY.

Mrs. Riley's PageBuilder is an Adobe Flex application used for creating picture cards, learning tools for children with special need. This Flex programming was already well underway I was brought on to the project as a Drupal developer. Emergent Behavior needed someone to handle the the web site and ecommerce needs of the application.

For MrsRiley.com I was given design comps and was on my way. We began with simple site pages to introduce the application, what it's for, and how to use it. We then branched-out into site forums and ecommerce aspects. The greatest challenge for the ecommerce was the subscription-based payments. By heavily customizing Ubercart for Drupal, we were able to get recurring payments working.

This project is unique in that it solidified my position as a Drupal developer.

  • Genesee Building Products

Genesee Building Products is a building product manufacturer located in Stafford, NY.

This site was completed as part of my first internship while attending Saint John Fisher. It also marked my first foray into the realm of freelance-type work. Working alone, I brought GBP from ground zero (absolutely no web presence) to having their full catalog of products online. That means handling everything from web hosting, to choosing a proper CMS (content management system), to styling and doing custom development needed.

This project also marked the beginning of my professional career in Drupal. Up until this project, most of my work had been in WordPress. Due to the ecommerce-like features needed, I knew that WordPress would not be suitable. I began working with Joomla and the much-hyped VirtueMart plugin, but about half-way through entering all of the product into the system, I realized that it was completely obliterating many of the relationships I had assigned. Due to poor documentation and support, I switched to Drupal.

This project accentuated the key advantage of Drupal, which is its community. Using the Ubercart module (in alpha at the time), and utilizing the knowledge of the Drupal community,  I was able to quickly get back to the point I was previously and still finish the project on time. The work here also led to my second internship with Mrs. Riley.

  • Abyss Gate

AbyssGate.com is a project that is currently on hold.

The goal of this project was to leverage Feed API (Feeds) to pull various feeds containing info on the game Aion. It was/is also intended as a potential template for future projects. The idea sprung from the WoW Unity site which is a resource for World of Warcraft blogs, podcasts, etc. Abyss Gate was intended as an expansion on that concept by automatically pulling in various web content and displaying it to users while, at the same time, directing traffic to the proper sources. It would serve as a dynamic and interactive directory for all web media concerning Aion.

The project is currently on the back burner due to other projects taking priority.
